He was educated in Speech Pathology, English, and Speech and Mass Communications at Howard University, Michigan State University, and The Ohio State University, and started his professional career as Instructor of Speech, Albany State University, Albany, Georgia. After one year at Albany, career goals caused him to locate to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania as Instructor of Speech, Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC).

Thaddeus progressed through the academic ranks at HACC from Instructor of Speech to Senior Professor of Speech and Mass Communications to Academic Dean. He is the recipient of numerous awards:  NISOD Award for Excellence in Teaching, University of Texas, Austin; outstanding Faculty Member, Student Government Association, HACC; Distinguished Administrator, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society; and a Pennsylvania State House of Representatives Citation for Public Service. Following 40 years of service, Thaddeus retired from HACC as Dean Emeritus and Senior Professor of Speech and Mass Communications. In his honor, the students of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at HACC established a scholarship in his name at the college:  The Thaddeus Sampson Service for Success Scholarship and reinforcing his motto, “to whom much is given, much will be required.”

Thaddeus has been a resolute member of Colonial Park United Church of Christ (CPUCC) since April 29, 2007. He is currently President of church Council, having served as Steward for Human Resources and Congressional Records and Vice President of church Council in past years.
