Working for Justice

The prophet Amos said, “Let justice roll down like water and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Realizing that treating the symptoms of injustice is not enough, we also work to raise awareness and advocate for justice in areas like climate, poverty, homelessness, prison reform, discriminatory systems, immigration, and refugees.

Under the Team’s leadership, the congregation adopted a Creation Justice Covenant and was designated as a Creation Justice church by the UCC.

Join the Open and Affirming (ONA) Team

CPUCC takes acceptance seriously. It is one of our core values. In December 2019 the congregation voted to adopt an Open and Affirming Covenant. The ONA Team helps ensure the congregation is living out its covenant.

Join the Creation Justice Team

The Creation Justice Team develops and oversees our CPUCC green church action plan, forms partnerships with other faith-based environmental groups, and raises awareness of environmental issues to the congregation through newsletter articles and various educational opportunities. Through the Team’s leadership, the congregation has adopted a Creation Justice Covenant and is working to become a designated UCC Creation Justice Church.

Join the Social Justice Team

The Social Justice Team is currently working on education and awareness surrounding the issues of racism and immigration. They sponsor a quarterly book club, encourage Sunday School classes to provide education on justice issues, and publicize ways for the congregation to become engaged, like participating in the YWCA 21 Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge.

Join the UCC Justice and Peace Network

The Justice and Peace Action Network (JPANET) is our denomination’s grassroots advocacy network. In keeping with God’s vision of a just and loving society, the JPANet educates and provides resources to its members on public policy issues and encourages them to engage in helping shape those policies by contacting their federal legislators. UCC JPANet advocates have sent messages on a wide range of issues from accessible healthcare, environmental justice, hate crimes, poverty, violence against women, federal budget policy priorities, fair treatment of workers, the minimum wage, and the protection of civil liberties.
