Thrift Shop

Those of us who work in the Thrift Shop meet so many interesting people. Some examples are as follows-

There are three women who come to the Shop almost everyday we are open. They love to look around and chat with the workers and other customers. Perhaps they live alone, are lonely and need the companionship they feel when visiting the shop. Sometimes they might buy a 10 cent or 25 cent item or nothing at all.

There are several couples from foreign lands such as Nigeria and Nepal who purchase items to send back to their home country. One couple buys lots of shoes. At $2.00 and $3.00 a pair they buy both men’s and women’s shoes to distribute. They often buy kitchen appliances and sets of dishes.

We have several dealers who buy things to resell. That is ok with us because they pay the price we ask and we don’t mind of they can receive more than that when they resell it elsewhere. We feel good about supporting a “ mall business.” We research donated items which we suspect are more valuable than most donations to determine what we will charge.

One man started his own home repair business and is always pleased to find a tool he needs at our Shop.

If a group that helps with children entering foster care needs clothing for those kids, they choose what they need and there is no charge for them. They once came in to find clothes for siblings who were abandoned with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It makes us feel good to help in that way.
